State of Montana - Remote and Office Workspace Study (ROWS)

Helena, MT

Aligning a new era of Workplace to the Workforce
As the State of Montana adapts to new ways of working through the implementation of telework, administrative office space must change in order to best support the State's employees while improving space utilization.
When surveyed, 48% of workers agreed that additional meeting rooms are needed to facilitate meetings for different teams, units, and bureaus.
74% of workers agreed that the crowded cubicles create a distracting work environment and quiet, private spaces are needed.
Key Paradigm Shifts for Montana
Create a Safe and Healthy Environment for all State employees
Develop a Variety of Workspaces to meet the needs of the work
Strategically Right-Size Space by investing in state-owned properties
Modernize Spaces with building renewal plans and proposed renovations

Collaboration meets a Space Standard Framework
Space standards were developed to meet the State's need for consistent space allocation across departments and State-owned buildings that support the work and the division's business functions.
The size and ratios of individual and collaborative space types are adjustable to accommodate specific departmental needs or layout limitations.
Departmental telework schedules combined with the established space standards framework will determine the total square footage requirement and necessary space type mix.
