Food Zoo Facelift

  • Completed in the fall of 2020, the Student Life Master Plan identified a New Dining Facility to replace the current Food Zoo as an immediate impact project.

  • With construction completion slated for 2024, the SMA/NAC team, along with food service consultant Bakergroup, started work to provide the University of Montana a facility that would match the food being served.

Grub with the Griz

  • As a new hub for campus life, the Dining Hall is finding a place on picturesque Ryman Mall, next to the Grizzly statue and within view of the historic UM Oval.

  • The design is oriented to capitalize on views to Mount Sentinel and the "M", with outdoor seating offered on a second level deck as well as surrounding a two-sided indoor-outdoor fireplace at ground level.

  • Centrally located along UM's residence life corridor, the facility looks to activate and enhance student life for recruitment and retention and reinforce UM's unique culture and pride.

Confluence

  • Conceptualized with the eddies and flows of the river, each "pebble" inside the building serves individual and unique food concepts from Asian fare at Yow and Yee to the Latin inspired La Mesa de Luna to A Mal Ga Mate, the demonstration kitchen, and International Cuisine station.

  • Intimate booths and tucked away spaces contrast the more open and social seating areas to best accommodate students seeking different types of accommodations. A variety of seating options offer differing group sizes and group types to focus on student comfort and enjoyment of the space.
