Rising to New Heights
The renovation of the Old Board of Health Building was triggered by the need to connect each historic floor with an accessible elevator.
The addition was designed to seamlessly align with the historic south facade of this 1919 historic building enclosing a state of the art four stop elevator.
Same Great Bones, Modern Workplace Amenities
Originally designed as the Board of Health building, home to multiple laboratories and offices of Epidemiologists and Statisticians. This building saw the conversion of use first to office space with a renovation in 1963.
The State needed to find space for two divisions of Legislative Services outside the Capitol. The building's proximity just across the south lawn created the opportunity for the building to be upgraded with modern amenities.
Minor changes to the interior partitions to provide opportunities for open workstation areas and upgrading the interior finishes to align with the historic character of the existing building were all design components included in the scope of the renovation.

With a vibrant commons and cafeteria adjoining the main entry, the school feels welcoming to students and the community, while a gym and stage holds other community events and performances. The school's entries are designed to activate the surrounding downtown and neighborhood areas.
