MSU's Hyalite Hall Achieves USGBC LEED V4 Certification

MSU’s Hyalite Hall opened its doors to students in Fall 2020 and has since achieved U.S. Green Building Council LEED Gold v4 certification. As one of the first buildings in the US certified under v4 in 2021, the more stringent v4 guidelines led to the analysis and optimization of energy and water systems with the following outcomes:

• Hyalite Hall is estimated to save 26.9% in energy over a conventional dormitory of this size, with a predicted 48% of water savings annually.
• Native plantings and protection of nearby Manneville Creek are predicted to reduce water use by 35%.
• Construction waste management led to the diversion of 93.76% of generated waste from the landfill.
• The multi-faceted Sustainable Education program includes tours, trainings and public education for students, the MSU community and public.

All this and more, Hyalite Hall’s commitment to the long-term sustainability and designed with a focus on student wellness and interaction make this one for the books.
