Metcalf Building Renovation - ROWS

Helena, MT

93,000 sf

Implementing Hybrid Space Design for State of MT Employees
The Metcalf Building had significant potential for space consolidation given the previous underutilization and low deficiency rating.
The State of Montana's innovative approach to hybrid workspace design in State-owned facilities was piloted in Metcalf's renovation design utilizing the ROWS Space Standards Framework.
Space planning and furniture selections were designed to capitalize on daylighting opportunities at all levels of the building with a core of enclosed offices and perimeter of open workstations.
Addressing Deferred Maintenance
While many of the systems in this building had been replaced more recently than all other State-owned buildings, a full replacement of MEP/FP systems was designed to increase system efficiencies and target LEED Silver standards.
The new building systems would account for the historically innovative approach to passive heating at the south facade and access to daylight on all sides of the building.
In addition to introducing the collaborative break room and huddle room spaces, the renovation scope included revamped interior finishes, restroom facilities, and mother's rooms.
