Providing a Residential Space for Therapy

  • SMA worked with Intermountain on two additional cottages for their residential therapy campus in Helena, Montana. With funding from the Department of Commerce Community Development Block Grant program (CDBG), the project was completed in early 2014.


  • Utilizing a “great room” concept that also emphasizes Intermountain’s relational therapy and visual awareness, the cottages have a home-like atmosphere that support children’s needs during their time at Intermountain.

Promoting Visual Awareness in a Supportive Home Atmosphere

  • Each cottage features nine bedrooms (with flexibility for roommates for a total of twelve children), a sensory room, kitchen, living, and dining room spaces.


  • A conference room, therapy office, and a separate entrance for staff and family are also included, and the cottages are also designed to allow for Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facilities (PRTF) state licensing at a later date.
